We have had a report that sometimes the subject line of a notification email, when displayed in the Apple Mail application, can appear garbled due to an encoding issue. e.g;
In this instance, the problem was caused by the existence of commas in the subject line. By removing the commas, the problem was resolved and the subject line appeared correctly in the Apple Mail application.
If you need to programmatically modify a subject line before it is sent, consider using the af/form/email/subject filter.
